Infomovel is a patient tracking tool developed to support community health workers (CHWs) in administering services across seven provinces in Mozambique. Focused on Human Immunodeficiency Virus and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS), tuberculosis (TB), and prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT), the tool is built on CommCare.
Project overview
Infomovel was originally piloted in 2015 with the Ariel Glaser Foundation in Cabo Delgado. In 2019, the program expanded to national scale, supporting more than 1,750 workers across eight different implementing partners.
Infomovel supports linkages between community workers and health facility focal points by including case management support for HIV testing and counseling (HTC), care and treatment (C&T), PMTCT, and tuberculosis programmatic workflows.
Two applications, one care system
Infomovel consists of two applications, Health Facility and Community, which support patient registration, follow-up, defaulter tracking, and household testing. Together they connect the work done in the community with the work done at the health facility, so patients can be registered, followed up, and tracked if they default on treatment.
How CommCare is used
Infomovel is built on CommCare and uses its core features to support frontline HIV and TB care. The tool provides:
- Client case management.
- Electronic medical record (EMR) and OpenMRS integration.
- Import validation.
- Case sharing.
- Multimedia-based counseling.
- In-app adherence calculators.
After scaling nationally in 2019, Infomovel supported more than 1,750 workers across eight implementing partners in Mozambique.
Implementing partners
Infomovel is delivered in Mozambique across the HIV/AIDS and TB sectors in collaboration with a range of implementing partners: the Center for Disease Control, Friends in Global Health, Fundação Ariel Glaser, the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, Centro de Colaboração em Saúde, ICAP, Mothers2Mothers, and N’weti.
